Léon Minkus: Don Quijote
Finding recordings of old ballets from the 19th century is usually a feat within its self. Just about every ballet company today performs them, but the orchestra hardly ever records thier music. The old composers of the ballet before Tchaikovsky are, in my opinion, the most underrated creators of music ever. Alot of this has to do with the fact that they did not write music for showing off the orchestra or even the conductor, but for ... Regular Price : $29.98

Stravinsky Conducts Stravinsky: Petrouchka/ Le Sacre du Printemps
Whatever the limitations of Stravinsky's baton technique, no one else on disc conjures the same bustling excitement at the outset of Petrouchka. Overlapping, polyrhythmic textures in Petrouchka and in Le Sacre du Printemps come off with Mozartian lucidity, Mendelssonian lightness, and, well, Stravinsky-esque rhythmic exactitude (notwithstanding a few hesitant entrances). The clarity partly stems from the composer's use of his leaner revised scores, helped by close-up, analytical mike work by CBS. There are, of course, slicker, more ... Regular Price : $11.98

Strauss: Viennese Waltzes and Polkas
If you love Johann Strauss, this is the best version of his waltzes I have heard. The music is both lively and the cd contains many of the classic waltzes we have heard over and over. I am ordering my second cd in case something happens to the first one. I have many classical cd's, but I find myself going back to this one most often.

The French Album
This is a great starter CD to buy if you're just beginning to build your classical music collection. It only covers French composers, and the melodies are superb. When I bought this CD I was looking for the Debussy Arabesques, but arranged for an orchestra instead of just for piano. It turnes out THIS was the CD I was searching for without even knowing the title to it! Reason being, a few ... Regular Price : $9.98

Schumann: Kinderszenen Op15
This album has Vladimir Horowitz performing two piano pieces written by the young Robert Schumann during the period when he was courting Clara Weick, the concert pianist who would become his wife. 'Kinderszenen' ('Scenes of Childhood') for Piano, Op. 15 (1838) consists of thirteen piano pieces of which No. 7, 'Traumerei' ('Dreaming') is clearly the most popular. These pieces are among the most charming and accessible of all of Schumann's work (and they are about children, rather than ... Regular Price : $11.98

Sweet Dreams
This is a great collection of slow stuff for classical heads and people who simply have a light appreciation for the form. The songs consist of some standards and some less-than-obvious choices, but all great stuff. While it's being marketed as a children's lullaby compilation, it's great for anyone looking for some background music for a cnaldelight dinner or road trip.
Solid execution and selection. The only ballad-filled classical CD you HAVE to get.
Rachmaninoff Plays Rachmaninoff
If you want to buy this CD for its first six tracks, forget it. The recordings bear no resemblence to the recordings on the 'Complete recordings' CD set, the piano sounds nothing like a piano at all and the rhythm is weird. I have no clue as to 'what happened' here. The pianist here sounds like a complete amateur who taught himself to press correct notes, unfortunately not at the correct time.
There is no mention of recording ... Regular Price : $5.49

German Military Marches
This recording includes an excellent selection of German martial airs, including some very old and traditional ones. Especially good are Der Grosser Zapfenstreich, ( the salute to the colors) and the Kaiserjager Marsch (The Kaiser March)which is a combination of several marches. There are no ideological marches in this as it is recorded by the modern German Air Force Band. I highly recommend 'German Military Marches.'

25 Beethoven Favorites
I must say that I am very disappointed with this CD. It's bad enough that only select movements from symphonies, concertos, sonatas, etc. are put on compilation albums like this one, but it irritates me to no end that even the individual movements themselves are cut! Supposedly 'edited for leisure listening', this CD in no way fulfilled my expectations of what it would be. Most tracks are about 3 minutes long (whereas they should actually be anywhere from 5-15 minutes).
