The singer's last few albums have showcased his love for the former (including homages to his beloved Verdi: the Requiem and Verdi aria collection). But Cieli di Toscana ('Tuscan Skies') marks a triumphant return to the pop idiom last explored on Sogno, offering a highly varied series of the kind of beautifully crafted contemporary melodies that initially won Bocelli acclaim. The familiar cast of songwriter-collaborators (including Francesco Sartori, responsible for the smash success 'Time to Say Goodbye') mixes with new blood; Bocelli himself unveils his songwriting talents on 'Il Diavolo e l'Angelo.' It's a highly produced affair, but behind all the gloss, Bocelli sings with a newfound, relaxed, even mellow quality. There are intimately touching moments--'L'Incontro,' a tribute to his first son featuring Bocelli's own poetry as read by U2's Bono--as well as soaring flights of lyricism (the duet 'L'Abitudine' with Italian singer Helena). And on 'Mascagni,' with its quotes from that composer's operas, Bocelli makes another nod to his classical affinities. But whatever the style, Bocelli is a singer who knows how to go straight to his listeners' hearts.
Buyer Reviews : I never though anything could top Romanza but Cieli Di Toscana is absolutely fabulous. It is constantly in my CD players at home and in my car. I have listened to this CD almost daily since December (2001). I just absolutely LOVE this CD. The Singing and Music are so beautiful. This album (CD) brings me so much serenity and is so beautiful its just amazing. Bocelli has the most beautiful voice I have ever hear and its so amazing how gentle and powerful he can sing at the same. On Cieli Di Toscana he shows us his great vocal range singing way down low and then way up high, gently and powerfully. His ability to hold beautiful notes is such a wonderful gift from God its astounding. There are so many highlights on these CD and in fact every song is great But I will mention but a few. Melodramma starts if off and is one of those songs you know will be an instant hit. Mille Lune Mille Onde is a very sensual song, E Sara A Settembre and is sweet and pretty song, Resta Qui is a soaring beautiful semi classical song, L'Abitudine (with Helena such a cute voice) is a nice song and is very cute, E Mi Manchi Tu is possibly my favorite song of all time, I just LOVE this song its so beautiful and Bocelli just songs his heart out on this one, such emotion and beauty; and I'Ultimo Re is another semi classical song that is just beautiful. This is a MUST BUY for any Bocelli fan and any fan of great singing.
