Buyer Reviews : Please, do yourself a favor and check out this recording. Carlos Kleiber is one of my favorite conductors. It is a shame that he has so few recordings available. I would recommend any of his discs available, and also his videos (many of which are out of print unfortunately), but these Beethoven recordings are some of his finest.
The Vienna Philharmonic sounds spectacular. This disc was beautiful recorded. Very high quality. Balance and clarity is stunning.
As a Timpanist, and thus an immense fan of Beethoven, I can say that this recording is among my favorite. Kleiber's realization of the energy and drama in two of Beethoven's most famous symphonies will make you stop in your tracks. VPO is fantastic. This recording demonstrates the 'life force' that Carlos Kleiber brings to the listener. Beethoven is the perfect vessel for Kleiber. This CD should be on your shelf.
