If you want to buy this CD for its first six tracks, forget it. The recordings bear no resemblence to the recordings on the 'Complete recordings' CD set, the piano sounds nothing like a piano at all and the rhythm is weird. I have no clue as to 'what happened' here. The pianist here sounds like a complete amateur who taught himself to press correct notes, unfortunately not at the correct time. There is no mention of recording dates either. Without the last three tracks, this CD would get 0. The symphonic dances, however are a completely different matter. This is an excellent stereo recording conducted by Sir Goosens, and it's the best interpretation I heard of the excellent work. It is what manages to drag the rating of the CD up to 5 stars, especially considering the price. In general, I don't see why the CD is called 'Rach plays Rach', but if you want a good recording of the symphonic dances, this is a must have. (by Vlad) |
