The Opera Album
This is a remarkable collection: two and a half hours' worth of opera arias, duets, and a couple of choruses, and nary a dud among them. All the stars are here, from Alagna to Schwarzkopf, with stops at Gheorghiu, Callas, Bjoerling, Dessay, Gedda, Carreras, Popp, Domingo, Norman--and a bunch of others. And the repertoire is wisely chosen: the gorgeous Flower Duet from Lakme, de los Angeles singing Bizet's Habanera from Carmen, the famous Pearl Fishers duet (Gedda, Blanc), Wally's exit ... Prokofiev: Peter And The Wolf/Saint-Saëns: The Carnival Of The Animals
My 3 1/2-year-old loves listening to Peter and the Wolf, and has taken to humming the melody for Peter. Bernstein gives a little quiz at the beginning, and right away my son caught on. However, I find Bernstein's tone to be a bit pompous. There are other good recordings out their, including Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops, w/ , I think, Richard Harris narrating. The Carnival of the Animals held no interest for my son--perhaps a bit ... Regular Price : $9.98

Bel Canto
Surely Renée Fleming's soprano must be one of the most beautiful voices before the public today. Though renowned for her interpretations of Mozart, Strauss, and Verdi, as well as for her commitment to contemporary music, she says that the 'bel canto' repertoire has always been central to her career. On this recording, which features scenes and arias from operas by Bellini, Donizetti, and Rossini, she proves that she has achieved total, effortless technical mastery of the uniquely ... Andrea Bocelli - Sacred Arias / Myung-Whun Chung
When he was growing up, Andrea Bocelli recalls finding inspiration in a favorite recording of sacred music performed by tenor legend Franco Corelli. Bocelli--who in the meantime has come to inspire millions of fiercely loyal fans himself--returns to the genre as the guiding theme of Sacred Arias, the release of which coincides with the first English-language biography of the singer. These performances are filled with the singer's phenomenally well-known vocal signature: his flair for ... Regular Price : $18.98

Naqoyqatsi (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)
Director Godfrey Reggio's Hopi-inspired Qatsi trilogy is one of most ambitious and challenging film cycles ever attempted. With groundbreaking visuals, the non-verbal films examine--and inherently critique--the rapid transition from the natural order to a world dominated by human culture and technology. Critical to the films' success has been the music of Philip Glass, for whom the projects have variously represented an entrée into a rich film-scoring career and compelling motivation for expanding his minimalist technique. Prokofiev: Peter and the Wolf
I purchased this album for my grandson. He enjoys instrumental rather than vocal music. I am sure he will love this but, since it is an introduction to orchestral music for him, I really wanted the narrated version. The buying information does not specify that this is WITHOUT NARRATION. I almost sent it back, but will keep it for the Carnival of the Animals. And I will order a version of Peter & the Wolf that specifies it IS narrated. ... Regular Price : $4.98

The Magic of Satie
Don't judge this splendid disc by its silly title. Jean-Yves Thibaudet has put together an imaginatively programmed and gorgeously played Erik Satie recital that is certain to acquire reference status alongside the classic Satie recordings by Aldo Ciccolini, his one-time mentor. The difference lies in Decca's far superior sonics, and Thibaudet's warmer, more robust piano sonority. He imbues the music with subtle dynamic gradations and varied articulations that keep Satie's sparse textures vibrant and fresh, without any of the ... Regular Price : $16.98

Messiah (Complete Traditional)
George Frederick Handel's Messiah is certainly one of the World's most beautiful musical compositions, and this recording is one of the best performances of this work. Conducted by John Aldis, The London Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir are absolutely heavenly. Equally wonderful are the soloists: Felicity Lott, Alfreda Hodgson, Phillip Langridge and Ulrik Cold. While not performed on period instruments or exactly in the manner which Handel had in mind when he composed The Messiah, (for a more faithful performance I recommend ... Regular Price : $13.98
