 | West Side Story (1961 Film Soundtrack)
Leonard Bernstein's musical update of Romeo and Juliet, with a young Stephen Sondheim's brilliant lyrics, had already galvanized Broadway with its vivid reinvention as a parable of racial intolerance and generational conflict. But director Robert Wise's lavish widescreen presentation broke fresh ground by taking the story to its most impressionable audience, the teenagers who could identify directly with Tony and Maria, and opened up Jerome Robbins's kinetic choreography through bravura camera work. The original soundtrack album was ... Regular Price : $17.98

 | Appalachian Journey
With the help of some friends (James Taylor and Alison Krauss lend some vocal support), the trio of Yo-Yo Ma, Edgar Meyer, and Mark O'Connor have created yet another fascinating hybrid of chamber music and bluegrass. This follow-up to 1996's Appalachia Waltz is filled with highly lyrical string passages, a homage or two to Copland, and plenty of tracks where Meyer's bass vamps with the best of them. This is reflective (and relaxing) music, lacking the intricate structure of classical ... Regular Price : $13.98

 | 25 Romantic Classics
The quality of how these pieces are played is incredible. I am moved to tears every time I listen to Canon in D. I have other recordings of these same pieces, but they do not come to life the same way they do on this recording. The only recording I am disappointed with is Fur Elise, which is the only piano solo on the CD.

 | 25 Mozart Favorites
The music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, one of the world's most acclaimed and brilliant composers, is undeniably essential in anyone's library of classical music. '25 Mozart Favorites' is a wonderful collection to start with. Not only does it include the basic necessities, but the choice and flow of the movements is perfect. Another quality of this collection is that it doesn't exploit his music and give buyers the idea that if you play ... Regular Price : $

 | Mozart for Mothers-to-Be
I already own a few classical cd's, but since we're expecting a newborn in a few weeks, I thought I'd join the 'develop the baby's brain' banwagon. I'm so glad I did. This cd has some great selections -- including a selection used in the movie 'Amadeus' to demonstrate the beauty and complexity of Mozart's work. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in some beautiful classical music, and although our baby will have no choice in ... Regular Price : $11.98

 | Classical Music for People Who Hate Classical Music
I fondly remember the LP record 'Classical Music for People who Hate Classical Music' from my undergraduate days in the early 1960's. Now I teach music literature online and in college. I haven't purchased this CD yet because of a couple of disastrous customer reviews and its price.
Most customers who purchased this don't seem to know much about classical music, but like this CD very much. I've noticed that unsophisticated listeners like music that's well performed much better ... Regular Price : $18.98

 | True Love Waits: Christopher O'Riley Plays Radiohead
Rock bastardizations of classical music are as old as Kim Fowley's--and ELP's--Tchaikovsky tweaking 'Nutrocker.' But classical interpretations of rock music have generally been something of a high-wire act. While most pop fare has strong melodic foundations for the soloist to build from, Christopher O'Riley has challenged himself here with the catalog of Radiohead, one of modern rock's most acclaimed--and texturally complex--bands. O'Riley's insightful gifts for interpretation (which have previously enlightened everything from Stravinsky to P.D.Q. Bach) produce a hypnotic, ... Regular Price : $12.98

 | Bach: Six Unaccompanied Cello Suites
This is Yo-Yo Ma's first recording of Bach's Cello Suites, digitally recorded in 1983 and first issued on LP. He has since made a second recording of the Suites in 1998, taken from the soundtrack of a video series, so it's interesting that the earlier set remains available. If you've been lucky enough to hear Ma play this music in concert, you'll realize that neither set represents his Bach at its best. This rendition is generally quite ... Regular Price : $31.98

 | Duetto: Marcelo Álvarez & Salvatore Licitra
The Italian Salvatore Licitra and the Argentinian Marcelo Alvarez are, arguably the two most exciting, promising (they're in their 30s), big-voiced, bread-and-butter (or steak-and-potatoes) 'Italian' tenors around. Yhey have proved themselves on the stages of the great opera houses of the world and on recordings. This CD is designed to present them to a wider audience--it is clearly meant to appeal to Three Tenors and Andrea Bocelli fans. And, in fact, it succeeds. These guys have ... Regular Price : $18.98
