 | Bach: Six Unaccompanied Cello Suites
This is Yo-Yo Ma's first recording of Bach's Cello Suites, digitally recorded in 1983 and first issued on LP. He has since made a second recording of the Suites in 1998, taken from the soundtrack of a video series, so it's interesting that the earlier set remains available. If you've been lucky enough to hear Ma play this music in concert, you'll realize that neither set represents his Bach at its best. This rendition is generally quite ... Regular Price : $31.98

 | Beethoven for Babies: Brain Training for Little Ones
For the parent looking to ease their child into a familiarity with classical music, this is a very well chosen set of Beethoven works. It begins with a generous selection of airs composed late in the composer's life. The presence of the flute as the lead instrument on these selections has a soothing quality that moves the ear in an ideally subtle way, especially as it gives way to the more excited piano sonata pieces. Zoltán Kocsis's ... Regular Price : $11.98

 | Build Your Baby's Brain 1
Hundreds of compilation recordings have been thrust on the market in recent years on the theory that classical music makes a nice, non-threatening accompaniment to everything from working out to making love. And here we have one compilation promising to make your baby smarter. It's offensive enough that the music featured on these compilations is spliced up so that the most you hear of any work is a single movement; what's really ... Regular Price : $9.98

 | Prokofiev: Peter and the Wolf
I purchased this album for my grandson. He enjoys instrumental rather than vocal music. I am sure he will love this but, since it is an introduction to orchestral music for him, I really wanted the narrated version. The buying information does not specify that this is WITHOUT NARRATION. I almost sent it back, but will keep it for the Carnival of the Animals. And I will order a version of Peter & the Wolf that specifies it IS narrated. ... Regular Price : $4.98

 | Beethoven: Violin Concerto, Romances
Anne-Sophie Mutter's Beethoven Concerto was recorded live at the final subscription concerts of Kurt Masur's long tenure as the New York Philharmonic's music director. The beautifully played orchestral part is a tribute to his leadership. Mutter plays with a silken tone and astonishing technical command of her instrument--absolute ease in the stratospheric tessitura of the solo part, and an amazing array of microdynamic adjustments that display the infinite variety of pianissimos at her command. She continually varies phrasing, so ... Regular Price : $16.98

 | Bach for Babies: Fun and Games for Budding Brains
Programmed similarly to the Beethoven for Babies collection, this set of Bach compositions runs the emotional gamut, from the gently eye opening to the jumpy arm raising, collecting each set of pieces under a thematic header. The first several selections ('Waking Up') feature solo piano works that come directly from Bach's more pedagogic works, compositions intended for students to use as exercises to loosen their touch. Played superbly by pianist Sviatoslav Richter, as well as the ... Regular Price : $11.98

 | The Wedding Album
Most of the 'wedding' albums are filled with a 15 - 30 of the 50 or so greatest classical wedding hits. Sample the albums on line before you buy. In fact, if the budget is tight, you can do the whole selection process on line by just playing the samples. First consider the instruments that you plan to use - organ, piano, guitar, brass ensemble, whatever. The instrument of course will have ... Regular Price : $9.98

 | Classical Music For People Who Hate Classical Music
I'm a studying musician preparing for college study, and I recieved this collection from my parents as a gift several years ago. I'm quite familiar with many of the works sampled, and must say this is a great place to begin your love for this stuff. On the plus side, this is an EXCELLENT collection for those wishing to explore the depth and bredth of 'classical' music (sorry, that term sometimes bugs me--read the CD jackets and you'll ... He has done it again. The Dutch violinist has again brought us a wonderful upbeat CD with some light music and some more classical pieces. Especially check out 'Lost Heroes' which was composed by Andre and his brother to commemorate September 11. The words are by his wife Marjorie and the Dutch soprano Kelly God does a beautiful and sensitive rendition.

 | Vivaldi: Four Seasons
Sitting here, listening to the Four Seasons performance played by Itzhak Perlman, Isaac Stern and the Israel Philharmonic, I've realized how important a musician is in the performance of a piece of music. While the Perlman/Stern/Zukerman/Mintz performance is wonderful to listen to, it lacks a certain something (and not to mention the horribly loud applause that interrupts the mood of the piece).
All is better in Joseph Silverstein's rendition of the piece. I remember purchasing ... Regular Price : $17.98
